The ancient site of Epidaurus (Epidavros) – Day trip
Another place of interest only 150 km from the Harmony Hotel is the ancient
site of Epidaurus.
Epidaurus was the most important religious and medical centre. It was
dedicated to Asclepios, the Greek god of medicine and a son of Apollo. It was
founded by the city authorities in 4th century BC in an isolated valley (13 km
off the coast).
The most interesting building is the theatre, the best preserved of all
classic Greek theatres which was not altered by the Romans. The theatre of
Epidaurus seats 14,000 and is known for its acoustics. It is still used for
various performances during the summer. |
